DAC

I learned the Direction, Alignment, Commitment (DAC) framework in a leadership training at work.

In the DAC framework direction is the overall group mission and goals, alignment is the necessary coordination of action within the collective group, and commitment is the willingness of group members to put personal interests secondary to that of collective interest and benefit.

This framework has helped me move away from command control to a more collaborative style of leadership. As the lead you are responsible for outcomes. Those outcomes dictate the directions. As the lead you may not have thought about all the directions or the implications of choosing one over the other. The team will feel more aligned with a mission and goals they helped define. Additionally, bringing the team along can uncover potential blind spots in unilateral decisions. Commitment is necessary for accountability.
